We Are The Tiny Tales Characters
Sedgwick Hedgehog
Meet Sedgwick
Hi there! My name is Sedgwick. I'm a little British hedgehog, and I'm so excited to meet all of you today!
I live in a cozy cottage in the Newingham Shire. I love reading books, especially adventure stories and mystery tales. They take me on fun journeys while I stay warm and snug in my home.
When I am outside, I enjoy spending time in my garden caring for flowers and vegetables. It makes me so happy to see little green sprouts turn into big, beautiful plants. It's very nice that I can eat them too!
Speaking of plants, green is my favourite colour. Everything looks fresh and lively in green. I wonder, do you have a favourite colour too?
Recently, I've started learning to play the guitar. It's a bit tricky with my tiny paws, but I'm getting better each day. Playing music makes me feel happy and excited. What do you like to do for fun?
I can't wait to hear all about your favourite activities. Let's be friends, and thank you for listening to me.
Bye for now!

Newingham Bees
Newingham Bees
Hello, boys and girls. We are the bees of Newingham Shire! Buzz.
We are famous for our golden, sticky honey!
You’ll know when we are around because we buzz. Our wings are beating super-fast—230 times a second! The vibration shakes the pollen off the flowers and onto our fuzzy-wuzzy bodies to take home for honey-making.
Did you know that we bees have five eyes? How many eyes do you have? We also have six legs! Good thing we don't need shoes—ha ha!
We love sniffing everything, especially flowers. Here’s a secret: We love to dance for our friends. Every time we do a new dance, we tell other bees where the new flowers are.
If you would like to see us in action you could visit a beekeeper’s hive. Don’t worry—smoke makes us bees very sleepy. We take a nap while a beekeeper collects honey for you and your friends.
Are you up for a fun challenge: Try buzzing for as long as you can before needing a break. Do it with a friend. There may be as much laughing as there is buzzing.
It’s time for me to buzz off. See you around and have a super day! Buzz, buzz!
Grasshoppers
Meet Grasshoppers
Hello friends, both big and small!
We are the grasshoppers of Newingham, England. We like to ask fun questions. We have a question for you. Do you like to play hide and seek? Because we do!
Grasshoppers love hiding in the long grass. We think it's the best game ever! We like to jump out and surprise our friends, making everyone laugh and giggle.
But that's not all! We grasshoppers make yummy treats for friends. Tibbey badger and hedgehog Sedgwick come to the pond every spring to eat delicious snacks.
You're invited too! Come witness our Jumping Olympics! We have so much fun watching who can jump the farthest and the highest. It's a giant jumping party!
How do you cheer for your friends? Maybe you say something like, "You can do it!" or "You're doing awesome!" It's so much fun to cheer for each other and see big smiles on our friends' faces.
Playing games, making treats, and cheering for your friends are some of the best things to do!
Time to jump, but we hope to see you again soon. Bye!
Mrs. Shield Bug & Buglets
Mrs. Shield Bug & Buglets
Hello there, I'm Mrs. Shield Bug, and these two balancing bugs on my head are my buglets! Don't be surprised if they leap around.
It’s best not to jump out and scare us or squish us, because like tiny skunks, we can give off a big stink. Yikes!
Do you like fruits and berries? We shield bugs love munching on these foods. Of course, our bites are so tiny that no one would notice.
We can fly. Can you fly?
Here in the shire, I ferry food to friends at our pond picnics. The badger and hedgehog like wild yams. Wild yams are a type of potato. If you’re curious you could try them. They are very tasty!
Oh goodness, there go my buglets. I must chase after them! It was nice to meet you! Cheerio.
Tibbey Badger
Meet Tibbey
Hello, Friends!
My name is Tibbey. I am a cheerful British badger! And I'm excited to meet you today.
Have you been on a picnic? I love outdoor picnics! It's wonderful sitting under a big tree with a basket full of yummy treats. What could make a picnic better? A nice cup of herbal tea! That is my special treat. Do you have a favourite treat?
I also love dancing and laughing. Sometimes, I dance so much that my belly aches from all the giggling!
Oh, my favourite colour is blue. Isn't it just the most handsome colour? It reminds me of the sky on a bright sunny day.
My best friend is a hedgehog named Sedgwick. He's a kind and funny hedgehog. We have loads of fun. We're always up for some adventure!
I am learning to swim. I wear cool goggles that help me see all the fish and turtles swimming around. Oh ha, ha, when the fish swim close by, they tickle my whiskers.
What do you like to do for fun? Do you have a best friend that you love to play with?
It is my wish for you to have a big giggle today.
Cheerio from your friendly badger, Tibbey.
Cody Caterpillar
Cody Caterpillar
Hello dear friends! My name is Cody Caterpillar.
I live near a beautiful pond. It’s springtime here. The days are warm and sunny and almost everything is green.
Do you like to wear sunglasses? I sure do! My favorite sunglasses are heart shaped. I love the color red. What’s your favorite color?
Have you ever seen rain on a sunny day? Or rainbows! They are my favorite thing to see. All those colors shining across the sky are the best! I have seen a double rainbow. I think painting them would be so much fun!
But most of my days are busy with munching on green leaves. Yummy!
One day, I'm going to make a cocoon. A cocoon is like a sleeping bag that zips up all the way. While I'm inside my cocoon, I will dream about becoming a butterfly.
But right now, I am hungry. There are so many leaves here in the shire.
I hope you like everything you munch on today. Thanks for listening, and happy rainbow hunting! Nom, nom. So yum!
Ladybug
Meet Ladybug
Hello friends! It's nice of you to drop in. I'm Miss. Ladybug.
I am collecting flowers to dry in the sunshine. There are a variety of amazing flowers for making delicious teas.
Have you tried flower tea? Lemon water is a refreshing drink too. A lot like liquid sour candy. Sour things can make my face squish up. Ha, ha!
When I'm at picnics here in the Shire, I enjoy a drop of honey, a nibble of a raisin, or a speck of crisp lettuce. Picnics are a lot of fun! They can be great in a backyard or at a park. It is easy to take yourself on a picnic. They are fantastic with friends.
Have you seen a ladybug up close? Or held one in your hand? Most of us have spots, yet some do not have any at all! Yes, it's true! No, they didn't lose their spots. I like what makes us unique. Differences make life interesting.
Gosh, it's time for me to deliver tea. I'm so glad you stopped by to chat. I hope to see you again soon. Ta-ta!
Georgie Gorilla
Georgie Gorilla
“Mwaramutse” (Nara-moot-say)
That means ‘good morning,’ Georgie style.
Guess what? I have a song to sing for you. Are you ready?
I’m G-E-O-R-G-I-E,
I’m George and I’m happy.
I’m G-E-O-R-G-I-E, come play with me.
Whether by land, by air or sea,
It’s the great big world, I wish to see.
Hope you come along with me on one of my adventure stories.
My first story, Georgie’s Nighttime Adventure, is coming out soon. I’m so excited!
In the meantime, it’s nice to meet you and I hope you have a super day.
Remember, read a good book today. Bedtime can sometimes be the best time.
I’m G-E-O-R-G-I-E.
I’m George and I’m happy.
Mama Gorilla
Mama Gorilla
Muraho,
Hi, I’m happy to meet you.
I hope you feel important, exceptional and needed today.
I am all about adventure, family and friends.
I enjoy being Georgie’s Mama. He is the sweetest baby gorilla I know, even if he gets into mischief.
Well, play safe and remember, it is good to love as well as being loved. bye-bye for now, Muraho (mera-bay-ho).
African Bullfrogs
African Bullfrogs
Hello everyone!
We are the African bulldogs of Africa.
You won’t believe it until you see us —- we are the size of a football and oh, we are extremely talented in music. Yes!
Remember, if you play the banjo, put it down to F sharp because you get a richer sound from your instrument.
In the meantime, I want to tell you that I’m having so much fun!
It’s good to meet you.
We met George Gorilla at nighttime here in the African forest…way up here on the mountain, near the ponds.
We can hardly believe what kind of mischief that gorilla can get into! Anyway, let’s play a song for our friends.
[music]
Ha! Ha! That was a short song.
Thank you for coming to say hello.
It was so good to meet you!
I wish you happy adventures, just like Georgie.
Bye-bye.
Leopard
Leopard
Hello everyone,
I’m very proud to share that I am an African leopard. I run 36 mph.
What do you mean that’s not fast? A cheetah goes 80 mph!
Well, 36 mph is pretty fast for a cat.
I’m saying humans at best can only run 12 mph and a gorilla, 25 mph. I’m not going to go without dinner. Not very often…
Although, it did happen recently.
Georgie Gorilla saw me fall out of a tree on to my back. Not my finest moment. I was so embarrassed. I ran off into the forest, blushing under my fur!
Oh goodness. Georgie Gorilla? I guess he got home. You could read Georgie’s Nighttime Adventure to find out what happened.
Nice meeting. You have a great day.
African Crocodiles
African Crocodiles
Heh, heh. We are the African crocodiles.
You know, I am almost 23 feet long and close to 2000 pounds.
How much do you weigh and how tall are you? I think I might be a little bigger than you.
I saw someone your size the other night, it was baby gorilla Georgie. He got away. He ran across the log Then he was gone. Then he came back, running across the log and he got away.
He certainly seemed to be in a hurry.
I hope that Georgie got to where he needed to go. I think it’s time for us crocodiles to get going…feeling hungry.
Nice to meet you all, and we wish you a great day.
Cicadas (Sonbesies)
Cicadas (Sonbesies)
Hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi,
We are African cicadas. We are the loudest bug in the world. It’s true. Almost as loud as a chainsaw. Hmm.
In Africa, they call us sonbesies. Yes, isn’t that cute? Oh, you’re cute too.
Hi, hi, hi, hi, nice to meet you. It’s time to say goodbye, bye.
If you see Georgie say hi for us. Hi, hi, hi, bye-bye bye.
Oh, by the way, if you’d like to hear what real African cicadas sound like, listen just a little more. Okay.
Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye…
Aardvark
Aardvark
“Amakuru?” That means: “How are you?”
“Ni Mesa.” That means “I’m good.”
I am an aardvark.
Very much like an anteater, I eat ants, but my favourite snack is termites here in Africa.
I am up all-night slurping and swallowing tens of thousands of bugs.
While up at night, I was very surprised to see a baby gorilla, all by himself wandering here in the mountain forest!
I was curious and I had to follow that little gorilla.
I think he learned a lot.
I hope you’ll explore that story called, Georgie’s Nighttime Adventure, so you can too, learn a lot.
Nice to meet.
You have an awesome day.
Forest Elephant
Forest Elephant
“Amakuru,” everyone!
That’s a nice way to say, “how are you?”
I’m an African elephant. Not just any African elephant. I am the really seen and the rarely heard of FOREST elephant.
Yes, you can look it up. I’m not a fiction storybook character. I am a real forest elephant in Africa.
I’ve had the most unusual night. I saw a baby gorilla free and roaming by himself, under a full moon last night.
I was in shock. I didn’t even move. He just ran on by. Probably thought I was sleeping. It could happen to anyone.
Anyway, it was nice meeting you all.
I wish you a fantastic day and great adventures.
Bye.
Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees
Yawn. So tired.
Oh, oh, wake up Fred.
Ho, ho, ho, oh, hi.
Hello everyone, we are Fred and Ed, the chimpanzees here in Africa.
Oh, we’re so tired. Hardly getting any sleep. Yawn…it’s been such a racket tonight!
We saw a little baby gorilla run by. Yeah. Then he was gone. Yawn.
And here you are.
Well…we’re very tired.
Fred and Ed just want to say good night.
Hello and goodbye.
Good night
Oh ya, good night, everyone. It was nice to meet you. Yawn.
Snoring Zzzz.
Fred is always snoring. Sorry about that.
Good night.
